Crassula ovata variegata, also known as Variegated Jade Plant, is a stunning succulent with green, oval-shaped leaves that have striking stripes of white and yellow. In bright sunlight, the margins of the leaves turn bright red, adding an extra element of interest. This slow-growing cultivar can reach up to 1-2 meters in height and 60cm-1m in width, forming an upright, bonsai-like plant with a stout trunk.

Native to South Africa, this plant is best suited to being container-grown in well-drained, loamy soil, as it has a small root system and is intolerant of humidity. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's important to let the soil dry out between waterings. The Variegated Jade Plant thrives with bright light and ample airflow, making it ideal for indoor environments. It can also be grown outside in hot, dry areas or in sunny patios.

Propagation is easily achieved by leaf or stem cutting, making it an ideal choice for novice gardeners. While this plant is unlikely to bloom in home environments, it can produce small, pink or white, star-shaped flowers in late autumn/early winter if conditions are favourable.

Crassula ovata variegata is a very dry-tolerant plant that does well in filtered sun but can handle some shade. In summer, it's important to keep the plant cool and provide shelter from direct sun during the hottest hours. While it can tolerate light frost and is hardy down to -5°C for short periods if it is in dry soil, it requires a minimum temperature of about 5°C and should be protected from frost to prevent scarring.

Overall, this plant is a popular succulent that is widely grown and not difficult to cultivate. Its green and white variegated leaves offer ornamental value, and it makes an excellent large bonsai tree. Whether grown indoors or outdoors, the Variegated Jade Plant is sure to add a touch of exotic beauty to any space.
