Crassula rupestris is a charming, compact succulent native to South Africa and Namibia, where it thrives in rocky outcrops and arid landscapes. This petite, slow-growing species reaches approximately 15 cm in height and spreads up to 20 cm wide, forming a dense, bushy cluster of small, triangular leaves. The lime-green foliage takes on striking red margins when exposed to bright sunlight, adding seasonal colour variation and interest.

This species is highly adaptable and easy to grow, making it an excellent choice for succulent collections, rock gardens, or small spaces. It thrives in well-draining soil and prefers a position with partial to full sun to enhance its vivid colouring. In late winter to early spring, Crassula rupestris produces delicate clusters of tiny, star-shaped pink or white flowers that attract pollinators. Like many Crassula species, it stores water in its fleshy leaves, making it drought-tolerant and well-suited to Australia’s dry conditions.

With its compact, tidy growth habit, Crassula rupestris is perfect for container gardens, windowsills, or as part of a mixed succulent arrangement. It responds well to light pruning, encouraging a fuller shape, and propagates easily from stem cuttings. A resilient and visually appealing plant, it adds texture and colour to any collection with minimal maintenance.
