Echeveria bella var. 'Bella' is a charming miniature species native to the highlands of Chiapas, Mexico, first collected near San Cristobal Las Casas in the winter of 1938–39 by Thomas MacDougall. Officially described in 1941 by Edward Johnston Alexander, this compact and offsetting succulent was originally referred to as E. B-6 in MacDougall’s field notes, highlighting its early intrigue among collectors and botanists alike.

Forming dense, caespitose clusters, Echeveria bella var. 'Bella' produces small rosettes ranging from 2 to 4 cm in diameter. The leaves are slender, narrowly oblanceolate, and grow to just 1.2 to 1.8 cm long and 2 to 4 mm wide. Their bright yellow-green colouring lacks the waxy coating (farina) found on many Echeveria species, giving them a clean, fresh appearance. The leaves taper to a delicate point and grow tightly around the centre, creating a neat and tidy rosette structure.

When in bloom, the plant sends up a tall, slender inflorescence up to 20 cm high. Its erect flowering stem carries orange-yellow bell-shaped flowers flushed with rosy-scarlet tones, particularly on the upper petals. These flowers emerge from a multilateral raceme with reddish pedicels and glaucous-tinted upper bracts, adding contrast and visual interest.

Well-suited to pots or troughs, Echeveria bella var. 'Bella' prefers a bright, frost-free position and benefits from protection during cold, wet winters. Its petite size and prolific offsetting habit make it ideal for collectors seeking uncommon, botanically rich specimens with a fascinating history and delicate floral display.
