Echeveria 'Comet'
Echeveria 'Comet' is a compact, clustering Echeveria with attractive blue-green foliage covered in fine white hairs. Its softly textured leaves form neat rosettes that gradually produce offsets from the base, developing into attractive multi-headed clumps with age.
Soft, bristly blue-green rosettes
The fleshy leaves are blue-green to grey-green and covered with fine white hairs, giving the rosettes their characteristic softly bristled appearance. Depending on season and growing conditions, the foliage can also develop subtle pink to purplish tones. Individual rosettes remain relatively small, making 'Comet' particularly well suited to pots and mixed succulent plantings.
Clustering growth and colourful flowers
'Comet' readily produces offsets as it matures, gradually developing a compact cluster of rosettes. In late spring under suitable conditions, flower stems can rise above the foliage carrying bell-shaped blooms that are predominantly red with contrasting yellow towards the tips.
The 'Comet' name
This plant has long circulated in cultivation in association with Echeveria setosa var. minor, an accepted botanical variety native to Oaxaca, Mexico. However, the exact horticultural origin of 'Comet' is not well documented, and it is also described in cultivation as a hybrid rather than simply a named form of Echeveria setosa var. minor. For this reason, we retain the familiar 'Comet' name without assigning an unconfirmed parentage.
Growing Echeveria 'Comet'
Grow in a free-draining succulent mix with plenty of bright light and good airflow. Strong light helps maintain compact rosettes and attractive foliage colour, although plants should be gradually acclimatised before exposure to intense Australian summer sun.
Water thoroughly when required, allowing the growing medium to dry appropriately between waterings. Avoid keeping the plant continuously wet, particularly during cooler periods. As offsets develop, they can be left in place to form an increasingly attractive multi-headed clump.

The plant you receive may therefore vary from the product images depending on the season, its stage of growth and current growing conditions. These natural variations are part of the character of living plants and do not affect their quality or health.
Pickup is available in Seville, Yarra Valley VIC by appointment. Order online as normal and any shipping charge will be automatically refunded after collection, unless you would prefer to receive an additional plant of similar value instead.
