Echeveria manaudes

Echeveria 'Manaudes' is a compact, freely clustering Echeveria that develops numerous small rosettes and can display considerable seasonal colour variation. Its small fleshy leaves move through shades of green, pink, orange, red and purple, with some of the strongest colouring often developing during the cooler months.

Compact Clustering Growth

'Manaudes' readily branches and offsets to form dense colonies of small rosettes. Mature plants can develop numerous growing points while remaining relatively compact, and older specimens can also be trained or displayed as small bonsai-style plants.

The fleshy leaves have a soft coating of natural farina and can change considerably in appearance according to light, temperature and growing conditions. Plants may be predominantly green during active growth before developing much stronger pink, orange, red and purple tones under suitable seasonal conditions.

Seasonal Colour Changes

One of the characteristics we particularly value in 'Manaudes' is its continually changing colour. In our nursery, plants can look quite different at various times of the year, with cooler conditions often producing some of their strongest colouring.

Despite the relatively delicate appearance of its small leaves and rosettes, we have found 'Manaudes' to be a particularly hardy and adaptable plant. Our established plants tolerate normal overhead watering and have performed well under a range of watering conditions, provided they are grown in a free-draining medium.

'Manaudes' & 'Rezry' Variegated

We also grow the much less common red-variegated form known as Echeveria 'Rezry' Variegated. The connection between these names is also recognised in cultivation, with 'Rezry' having been distributed under the name 'Manaudes'.

We have additionally observed this relationship firsthand in our own nursery. Our original red-variegated plant arose spontaneously from one of our non-variegated 'Manaudes' plants, developing the characteristic cream, pink and red variegation while retaining the same compact leaf form and freely clustering growth habit. We later obtained additional 'Rezry' Variegated plants to build sufficient stock for sale rather than relying solely on propagation from our original plant.

Growing Echeveria 'Manaudes'

Grow in a free-draining succulent mix in a bright position with good airflow. Good light helps maintain compact growth and encourages stronger seasonal colouring. Acclimatise plants gradually when moving them into substantially stronger light, particularly during the hotter months.

Water thoroughly when required and allow the growing medium to dry appropriately between waterings. Mature clusters can be left intact to develop numerous rosettes or divided and propagated when additional plants are wanted.
