Echeveria 'Pink Lady'
Echeveria 'Pink Lady' is a compact Korean hybrid grown for its strongly defined rosette form and changing combination of grey-green, mauve and pink foliage. The fleshy, pointed leaves are arranged in closely overlapping layers, with pink to red margins becoming particularly prominent as the plant develops stronger seasonal colour.
Pink, Mauve & Grey-Green Seasonal Colour
'Pink Lady' can change considerably in appearance through the year. During periods of active growth the foliage may show more grey-green and muted blue-green tones, while cooler conditions and good light can bring out increasingly strong shades of dusty pink, mauve and deeper rose.
The fine pink to red edging around the leaves remains an important feature of the rosette and can intensify along the margins and pointed tips. Under stronger seasonal colour, the combination of darker inner growth, pink margins and softer outer foliage gives the rosette considerable depth and definition.
Compact, Layered Rosettes
The leaves develop in a dense, symmetrical rosette, with younger leaves held relatively upright through the centre and older foliage gradually opening outward as the plant matures. Individual plants can vary somewhat in leaf shape and colour according to their stage of growth and growing conditions.
A light natural coating of farina contributes to the soft, muted appearance of the foliage. This protective wax is best left undisturbed, as handling the leaves can leave permanent marks where the farina has been removed.
Growing Echeveria 'Pink Lady'
Grow in a free-draining succulent mix with good airflow and plenty of light. Bright conditions help maintain compact rosette growth and encourage the stronger pink and mauve colouring associated with this cultivar. Plants should be acclimatised gradually before exposure to intense Australian summer sun, particularly after being grown under more protected conditions.
Water thoroughly when required, allowing the growing medium to dry appropriately between waterings. Avoid keeping the roots continuously wet, particularly during cooler weather. Regular nutrition during active growth can support healthy foliage, root development and continued rosette growth.
Propagation
'Pink Lady' can be propagated from offsets when produced, allowing them to develop sufficiently before separation from the parent plant. Healthy rosettes can also be propagated from stem cuttings when plants develop an elongated stem or are being rejuvenated.
