Echeveria pulidonis (Pulido's Echeveria) is a captivating succulent prized for its striking foliage and easy care. This slow-growing plant forms elegant, stemless rosettes of fleshy, pale green to bluish-green leaves, accented with distinct reddish-brown edges and tips. The rosettes reach up to 9 cm in diameter, gradually producing offsets to form attractive clumps. The obovate leaves are flat to slightly concave on the upper surface and rounded below, growing up to 5 cm long and 1.5 cm wide.
Native to the region near Beristain in Puebla, Mexico, Echeveria pulidonis thrives in well-draining soil with plenty of sunlight. This succulent is an excellent choice for both indoor and outdoor gardens, adding a touch of elegance to any space. The bright yellow flowers, which appear in spring, are borne on reddish, unbranched stems up to 18 cm long. These stems tend to bend under the weight of the blooms, creating a graceful arching effect.
The specific epithet "pulidonis" honors Señor Miguel Pulido, who collected this species in its native habitat. This Echeveria is well-suited to Australian climates, flourishing in areas where temperatures range from -6.7 °C to +10 °C.
To care for Echeveria pulidonis, avoid letting water sit in the rosette to prevent rot and fungal diseases. Remove dead leaves to minimize pest infestations, especially from mealy bugs. Repot during the warm season with dry soil, and treat any root cuts with fungicide. Propagation is straightforward, typically from leaf cuttings placed in well-draining succulent soil, or from seeds and stem cuttings.
With its stunning appearance and low maintenance, Echeveria pulidonis is a perfect addition to any succulent collection, offering year-round beauty and charm.
