Echeveria agavoides ‘Red Tips’ is a striking Mexican succulent prized for its crisp architectural form and vivid colour contrast. Native to the rocky highlands of central Mexico, this species belongs to the Crassulaceae family and is admired for its compact, agave-like rosette of thick, fleshy leaves. The cultivar ‘Red Tips’ is particularly sought after for its bright green foliage accented by deep red margins and sharply pointed tips, creating a bold display that intensifies during cooler weather and periods of strong light.

Growing to approximately 15–20 cm tall and 20–30 cm wide, Echeveria agavoides ‘Red Tips’ remains relatively compact and slow growing, making it an excellent choice for pots, succulent bowls, rockeries, and waterwise gardens. Unlike many Echeveria varieties that develop a powdery coating, the leaves of this species are smooth, glossy, and almost wax-polished in appearance, enhancing its clean, sculptural look throughout the year.

During late spring and summer, mature plants produce elegant arching flower stalks bearing clusters of nodding, bell-shaped blooms in shades of coral, orange, and yellow. These colourful flowers attract pollinators and provide an additional seasonal feature above the foliage.

Echeveria agavoides ‘Red Tips’ thrives in a free-draining succulent potting mix and performs best in a position receiving bright light, morning sun, or filtered sunlight. In cooler parts of Australia it appreciates protection from heavy frost and prolonged winter wet conditions. Water deeply when the growing medium has completely dried, allowing excess moisture to drain away freely.

With its bold geometry, vibrant colouring, and easy-care nature, Echeveria agavoides ‘Red Tips’ is a dependable and rewarding succulent that brings year-round structure and colour to both indoor and outdoor collections.
