Echeveria secunda x Puebla is an attractive hybrid succulent that beautifully combines the robust, clumping growth habit of Echeveria secunda with the striking foliage characteristics of Echeveria ‘Puebla’. Believed to have originated from selective hybridisation in Mexico, this cultivar showcases the best traits of its parent species — resilience, easy propagation, and exceptional ornamental appeal — making it a favourite among collectors and landscape designers alike.

This compact rosette-forming succulent typically reaches around 15 cm in height and width but can spread extensively over time, forming dense, ground-hugging mats as it offsets freely. Its fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves are a soft, powdery blue-grey, often edged with dramatic reddish-purple margins that intensify in cooler weather. This seasonal colour shift gives the plant a dynamic appearance, with many enthusiasts describing the leaf markings as reminiscent of “blood splatter” patterns — a striking contrast against its glaucous base tones.

In summer, Echeveria secunda x Puebla produces elegant, arching flower stalks adorned with classic bell-shaped blooms. The red calyces and bright yellow petals create a vibrant bi-coloured display that attracts pollinators and adds a splash of colour to any succulent arrangement or garden setting.

Like most Echeveria, this hybrid thrives in full sun to partial shade and requires a gritty, free-draining succulent mix to prevent root rot. Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. While tolerant of dry conditions, it is not frost-hardy and should be sheltered from cold snaps in Australian climates. Low-maintenance and highly rewarding, Echeveria secunda x Puebla is a superb choice for rockeries, container gardens, or as a striking feature in mixed succulent displays.
