Echeveria 'Yin Lisa'

Echeveria 'Yin Lisa' is a compact, exceptionally free-offsetting Echeveria that develops beautiful green rosettes strongly contrasted with pink, crimson to deep red colouring around the leaf margins and outer foliage. One of its most characteristic features is its prolific clustering habit, with established plants readily producing numerous offsets around the main rosette and gradually developing into dense, multi-rosetted specimens.

Green & Red Seasonal Colour

The rosettes are formed from thick, pointed leaves, with fresh growth generally emerging predominantly green before developing increasingly strong red colouring towards the margins and tips. Under suitable conditions the contrast can become particularly pronounced, with rich red outer leaves surrounding a greener centre and a fine red outline tracing the edges of the inner foliage.

Colour varies naturally through the year and according to light, temperature, watering and other growing conditions. Brighter light and seasonal stress can intensify the red pigmentation considerably, while plants growing more actively or under softer conditions generally display a greater proportion of green. This changing balance between green and red gives 'Yin Lisa' a noticeably different appearance at different stages of growth and through the seasons.

An Exceptionally Prolific Clumping Echeveria

'Yin Lisa' is particularly notable for the number of offsets it can produce. Young pups emerge around the base and sides of established rosettes and can be left attached to create increasingly substantial clusters. Mature plants can therefore carry numerous rosettes of different sizes simultaneously, producing the dense growth habit characteristic of this cultivar.

The offsets also make 'Yin Lisa' particularly straightforward to propagate. Once sufficiently developed, individual pups can be carefully separated from the parent plant and established independently in a free-draining succulent mix. Alternatively, they can simply be left attached and allowed to fill the pot or spread into a larger clump.

Hardy & Easy to Grow

In our nursery we have found 'Yin Lisa' to be a particularly hardy and uncomplicated Echeveria. It grows readily, offsets freely and has proven considerably more forgiving than some of the more delicate collector Echeverias. From our experience it is a very approachable variety for growers who are relatively new to Echeverias, while its strong colour and clustering habit remain equally interesting for established collections.

We have also found it performs very well through our cool Victorian winters and has not shown the tendency towards winter powdery mildew that we encounter with some Echeveria cultivars. This is our own experience under our particular nursery conditions rather than an indication that the plant is immune to fungal disease; performance will naturally vary with climate, humidity, airflow and cultivation.

Growing Echeveria 'Yin Lisa'

Grow in a free-draining succulent mix in a bright position with good airflow. Good light encourages compact rosette development and helps bring out the characteristic red pigmentation, although plants should be acclimatised gradually before exposure to intense Australian summer sun.

Water thoroughly when required and allow the growing medium to dry appropriately between waterings. Avoid keeping the root zone continuously wet, particularly during cooler weather. Good airflow around densely clustering plants is beneficial as the number of offsets increases and the plant fills its pot.

The offsets can be left undisturbed to develop a substantial multi-rosetted specimen or selectively removed for propagation. Older clusters can also be divided and replanted, making 'Yin Lisa' an excellent Echeveria for gradually producing additional plants while retaining an attractive parent clump.
