The Golden Rat Tail Cactus, also known as Cleistocactus winteri, is a captivating succulent from the Cactaceae family. Originating from Bolivia, this plant is renowned for its unique and striking appearance, making it a must-have for cactus enthusiasts and collectors.
Characteristically, the Golden Rat Tail Cactus features columnar, hanging, or creeping stems that can extend up to 90 centimeters. With a diameter of 2 to 2.5 centimeters, these stems are covered in 16 to 17 ribs, densely adorned with golden spines that are both flexible and visually appealing. The closely spaced brown areoles from which these spines emerge add an extra layer of texture and depth to the plant's appearance.
The flowering phase of the Golden Rat Tail Cactus is particularly noteworthy. In spring and summer, it produces striking salmon-pink flowers, each about 4 to 6 centimeters long and 5 centimeters in diameter. These blossoms are a beautiful contrast against the green stems, making the plant even more eye-catching. Post-blooming, the plant yields small, barrel-shaped fruits, adding to its ornamental value.
Care for the Golden Rat Tail Cactus is straightforward, making it suitable for both novice and experienced gardeners. It prefers full sun and requires well-draining soil to thrive. Regular watering is needed during its growth season, but it's important to reduce watering in winter to prevent root rot.
Also known by botanical synonyms such as Borzicactus aureispinus and Hildewintera aureispina, the Golden Rat Tail Cactus is versatile in its display options. It can be a stunning addition to hanging baskets, rock gardens, or as a standalone piece in a diverse cactus collection.
In summary, the Golden Rat Tail Cactus (Cleistocactus winteri) is not just a plant, but a statement piece. With its unique growth habit, beautiful blooms, and low-maintenance care, it's an excellent choice for anyone looking to add a touch of exotic beauty to their garden or home.

The plant you receive may therefore vary from the product images depending on the season, its stage of growth and current growing conditions. These natural variations are part of the character of living plants and do not affect their quality or health.
