Graptopetalum 'Purple Delight' aka Graptoveria Crystal
Graptopetalum 'Purple Delight' also known as Graptoveria Crystal, is a stunning hybrid succulent with an elegant appearance. It is a result of a cross between Graptopetalum amethystinum and Graptopetalum paraguayense. This plant is also known as Graptopetalum 'Snow White' due to its pale green leaves covered with a frost-like bloom that often appears mottled and can make them look frosty white.
This succulent grows up to 20 cm tall and has stems that are initially prostrate but later decumbent and somewhat upright at the top. The stems are only basally branched and often have aerial roots. The rosettes grow up to 10 cm in diameter and are clustered at the end of bare stems.
The leaves of Graptopetalum 'Purple Delight' can range in color from deep lilac and light pink-red to frosty white, depending on the season and conditions in which the plant is grown. The leaves are up to 5.5 cm long, up to 2 cm wide, and up to 1 cm thick.
In spring, this succulent produces star-shaped, white flowers with some red dots. They appear in clusters on usually simple, up to 20 cm long stalks that arise near the stem tip.
Graptopetalum 'Purple Delight' thrives in sunlight, so it's best to choose a location where it will receive full sun. However, it will also grow in partial shade with slightly rangy results. When growing this plant in a pot, choose a well-drained soil mix and a pot with drainage holes.
This plant will do well in hot weather, but its most active growth will occur in spring and fall. Graptopetalum 'Purple Delight' can withstand temperatures as low as -1.1 °C. The plant growing outdoors in full sun will appreciate a weekly watering in summer. Cut back on watering to about every 10 to 14 days when the weather cools down in spring and fall.
Graptopetalum 'Purple Delight' does not need frequent repotting, but when it has outgrown its container, it can be repotted in a fresh potting mix in a new pot slightly larger than the old one. The plant can be propagated through stem cuttings or leaf cuttings in spring and summer.
