Haworthia truncata 'Lime Green'
Haworthia truncata 'Lime Green' is an unusual cultivated hybrid distinguished by its broad, squared-off leaves, translucent windows and striking lime-green to chartreuse colouring. The leaves develop in a fan-like arrangement reminiscent of Haworthia truncata, with darker emerald-green markings creating an attractive network across their translucent upper surfaces.
Lime-green windowed foliage
The thick leaves terminate in broad, flattened translucent surfaces rather than conventional pointed tips. These distinctive leaf windows range from lime and chartreuse to deeper green and are crossed by contrasting veins and markings that become particularly noticeable when viewed in good light.
The leaves can appear softly frosted or almost glass-like, while colour and translucency vary according to season, hydration and growing conditions.
Fan-like growth and clustering
Young plants display the characteristic fan-like arrangement associated with Haworthia truncata. With maturity, 'Lime Green' produces offsets and can gradually develop into an attractive cluster containing multiple fans and growing points.
Offsets can be left attached to produce an increasingly substantial specimen or separated once sufficiently developed for propagation.
A garden-origin Haworthia hybrid
'Lime Green' is a cultivated hybrid with clear Haworthia truncata influence. Horticultural references have suggested Haworthia cuspidata or Haworthia cymbiformis as a possible additional parent, but its precise parentage does not appear to have been conclusively documented. We therefore prefer to describe it simply as a Haworthia truncata hybrid rather than assign an uncertain second parent.
Growing Haworthia truncata 'Lime Green'
Grow in a free-draining succulent mix with bright light or filtered sun and good airflow. Good light helps maintain compact growth and the characteristic lime-green colouring, while protection from intense Australian afternoon summer sun helps prevent scorching.
Water thoroughly when required, allowing the growing medium to dry appropriately between waterings. Avoid keeping the roots continuously wet. Mature plants can produce slender flower stems carrying small pale cream to whitish flowers.
