Haworthia retusa var. (multi)
Haworthia retusa var. is an attractive form of Haworthia retusa with fleshy green leaves arranged into low, geometric rosettes. These multi-head plants have already developed offsets, creating clusters of distinctive windowed rosettes with translucent upper leaf surfaces and contrasting green markings.
Distinctive retuse leaf windows
The thick leaves broaden towards their ends and develop flattened to slightly recurved upper surfaces containing translucent tissue. Fine green lines and markings extend through these windowed areas, creating the characteristic patterned appearance associated with Haworthia retusa.
Colour varies according to season, hydration and light, ranging from fresh lime and medium green through to deeper green, bronze or reddish tones under stronger conditions.
Multi-headed clustering growth
These plants have developed multiple rosettes through natural offsetting and can continue to form increasingly substantial clusters with time. The offsets can be left together to maintain the multi-headed appearance or separated once sufficiently developed for propagation.
A South African window Haworthia
Haworthia retusa is native to South Africa's Western Cape, particularly around the Riversdale region. In habitat, plants can grow partly embedded in the ground with their flattened translucent leaf surfaces exposed to light.
The plants offered here are an unidentified cultivated form of Haworthia retusa. As we do not have reliable provenance assigning them to a particular named botanical variety, we prefer not to apply a more specific identification.
Growing Haworthia retusa
Grow in a free-draining succulent mix with bright filtered light and good airflow. Sufficient light helps maintain compact growth and attractive leaf markings, while protection from intense Australian afternoon summer sun reduces the risk of scorching.
Water thoroughly when required, allowing the growing medium to dry appropriately between waterings. Avoid keeping the roots continuously wet. During dry periods the fleshy leaves may lose some fullness and recover as the plant takes up moisture again.

Pickup is available in Seville, Yarra Valley VIC by appointment. Order online as normal and any shipping charge will be automatically refunded after collection, unless you would prefer to receive an additional plant of similar value instead.
