Kalanchoe 'Oak Leaf'
Kalanchoe ‘Oak Leaf’ (Kalanchoe beharensis ‘Oak Leaf’), sometimes called the Dwarf Velvet Plant, is a striking, compact succulent prized for its sculptural foliage and tactile texture. Native to Madagascar, this variety is a smaller, more manageable cultivar of the larger Kalanchoe beharensis, yet it retains the dramatic form and velvety appeal that has made the species a collector’s favourite.
The plant’s distinctive leaves are its most captivating feature. Thick and leathery, they are lobed like oak leaves, their edges gently undulating to create a bold silhouette. Each leaf is cloaked in a fine layer of silvery-grey or green hairs, lending a soft, velvety texture that shimmers in sunlight. In bright conditions, the foliage often takes on warm bronze or reddish hues, adding further seasonal interest. Over time, this succulent develops woody stems and a sturdy, upright form, usually reaching around 60–90 cm in height, while remaining far more compact than its giant parent.
As with many Madagascan succulents, Kalanchoe ‘Oak Leaf’ thrives in dry, sunny conditions and is well adapted to periods of drought. It requires only occasional watering and should always be planted in a free-draining soil such as a cactus or succulent mix. Protection from frost is essential, making it an excellent candidate for indoor displays in cooler regions or as part of a sunny courtyard, balcony, or rockery in milder climates.

Pickup is available in Seville, Yarra Valley VIC by appointment. Order online as normal and any shipping charge will be automatically refunded after collection, unless you would prefer to receive an additional plant of similar value instead.
