Lobivia arachnacantha (Yellow Form) is a captivating, small, cluster-forming cactus known for its striking yellow flowers that bloom in spring and summer. Also known as Echinopsis ancistrophora subs. arachnacantha, this plant is a delight for any cactus enthusiast due to its ease of care and low maintenance requirements, making it ideal for pots.
Originating from Bolivia and northern Argentina, Lobivia arachnacantha thrives at altitudes of 1800 to 2600 metres in stony hills with reliable summer rainfall. This cactus forms dense clumps as it matures, with each plant reaching a height of 2 cm and a width of 4 to 6 cm. Despite its modest size, it produces impressive flowers up to 7 cm in diameter, creating a stunning display every few weeks throughout the summer months.
The name "arachnacantha" translates from Greek to "spider web-shaped spines," aptly describing the intricate, web-like spines that adorn the cactus. Each stem, dark green and spherical, features around 14 weakly notched ribs with areoles bearing 9-15 radial spines that range from pale to dark brown or yellowish-brown.
The flowers of Lobivia arachnacantha are exceptionally large relative to the plant, boasting a slender floral tube and petals that can vary in color from golden yellow to orange, and occasionally white, violet, or red. Blooming during the day, these flowers add a vibrant touch to any collection.
Incorporate this unique and visually striking cactus into your garden or indoor plant display for a touch of botanical elegance and an ongoing spectacle of blooms.
