Neoregelia 'Fireball Variegata' is a striking variegated bromeliad hybrid, resulting from a cross between Neoregelia 'Tricolor' and Neoregelia 'Fireball'. This compact, clumping cultivar is prized for its vivid foliage, low-growing form, and ease of care—making it a favourite among collectors of colourful foliage plants and bromeliad enthusiasts alike.

This cultivar forms tight rosettes of strap-shaped leaves, which are edged with creamy white and soft pink variegation. When exposed to high light levels, the green and white base tones can develop intense red flushing inherited from its 'Fireball' parent, creating a luminous contrast that changes throughout the seasons. The leaf variegation is stable and visible year-round, with pigmentation becoming more vivid in bright conditions, including dappled outdoor sun or filtered indoor light.

In the centre of each rosette is a water-holding tank, or "central cup", which functions as both a water reservoir and the flowering point. The flowers themselves are small, purple, and largely hidden within the foliage—more a botanical curiosity than a visual feature.

Native to tropical environments and adaptable to Australian conditions, Neoregelia 'Fireball Variegata' can be grown in pots, mounted on bark, or added to subtropical gardens as a groundcover under trees. It prefers warm temperatures, good airflow, and high humidity, but will tolerate short dry spells once established. Ideal for patios, balconies, or as part of a bromeliad wall, this cultivar adds year-round colour and architectural structure with minimal fuss.
