Pachyveria 'Moonglow' is an attractive intergeneric hybrid combining the thick, fleshy foliage associated with Pachyphytum with the rosette growth of Echeveria. Its plump leaves are covered with a soft powdery bloom, giving the plant its characteristic glaucous blue-green appearance, while stronger light and seasonal conditions can bring pink and rosy tones to the leaf tips and margins.

The thick leaves form substantial rosettes with a softly rounded appearance. A natural coating of powdery farina gives the foliage its pale, almost luminous finish and should be handled as little as possible, as rubbing or fingerprints can permanently disturb the coating on individual leaves.

Colour varies naturally through the year. Plants in active growth may remain predominantly blue-green, while stronger light, cooler conditions and drier periods can encourage increasingly noticeable pink to rosy colouring around the tips and margins.

Clustering growth

'Moonglow' offsets readily from around the base and can gradually develop into an attractive cluster of multiple rosettes. In our nursery we find it a robust grower, and established plants can become increasingly full as successive offsets develop.

The offsets can be left attached to produce a larger multi-headed specimen or separated once sufficiently developed for propagation.

About Pachyveria 'Moonglow'

Pachyveria is the name used for intergeneric hybrids between Pachyphytum and Echeveria. 'Moonglow' has long circulated in succulent cultivation as a Pachyveria hybrid, although reliable documentation establishing its precise parentage and original breeder is limited. For this reason, we prefer not to attribute an unconfirmed parentage to the cultivar.

Growing Pachyveria 'Moonglow'

Grow in a free-draining succulent mix with plenty of bright light and good airflow. Good light helps maintain compact rosettes and encourages stronger seasonal colouring. Some protection from intense afternoon sun during very hot Australian summer conditions can help prevent scorching, particularly when plants are dry.

Water thoroughly when required, allowing the growing medium to dry appropriately between waterings. Established plants tolerate dry periods well, but regular watering during active growth helps maintain plump foliage and steady growth. Avoid keeping the roots continuously wet.
