Rebutia pulvinosa ‘Crown Cactus’ (Yellow Flowers) is a charming, miniature cactus species prized for its brilliant floral displays and compact, clumping habit. Native to the elevated regions of Bolivia and parts of northern Argentina, this delightful succulent thrives in the cool, rocky slopes of the Andes, where it has adapted to harsh yet sunny conditions. Belonging to the Rebutia genus, Rebutia pulvinosa is particularly noted for its small, globular stems, attractive spination, and vibrant yellow blossoms that stand out against its green body.

This species forms neat, cushion-like clusters (hence the epithet pulvinosa), with individual rounded stems measuring up to 8 cm in height and width. Over time, it naturally produces numerous offsets, making it ideal for those who enjoy plants that slowly form dense, decorative clumps. The surface of the stems is covered in tubercles arranged in spirals, each tipped with short, fine spines that give the cactus a soft yet textured appearance without being overly sharp or hazardous to handle.

From late spring through summer, Rebutia pulvinosa bursts into colour with profusions of bright yellow, funnel-shaped flowers. These cheerful blooms typically emerge from the base of the plant or between its stems, creating a striking contrast against the green and spined backdrop. The flowers are relatively large compared to the plant’s compact size, enhancing its ornamental appeal.

Best grown in bright, indirect light, Rebutia pulvinosa ‘Crown Cactus’ appreciates well-draining soil and thrives with minimal maintenance, making it ideal for beginners and collectors alike. In Australian climates, it enjoys a sunny to lightly shaded position, sheltered from excessive winter rain and frost, and prefers a dry winter rest period to encourage abundant flowering in the warmer months.
