Sedum 'Angelina' (Sedum rupestre 'Angelina') is a striking, mat-forming perennial with a fast-growing, low-maintenance habit. Native to central and western Europe, it thrives in a wide range of conditions, from rocky outcrops to well-drained garden beds. This cultivar is especially admired for its vibrant, needle-like foliage that shifts in colour through the seasons. In spring and summer, the leaves are a brilliant lime-green, turning a warm golden-yellow as autumn approaches. During colder months, the foliage can take on orange or reddish-brown tones, adding to its visual appeal.
In addition to its stunning leaves, Sedum 'Angelina' produces clusters of star-shaped yellow flowers that rise on stems up to 20 cm tall, typically blooming in mid to late summer. These nectar-rich blooms attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, while the foliage itself provides a welcome habitat for hoverflies, whose larvae help control aphid populations.
Sedum 'Angelina' is particularly well-suited to Australia’s diverse climates, including temperate and coastal areas. It is drought-tolerant, although occasional watering helps maintain its lush appearance. Plant it in full sun for the best colour development, and it will grow to a height of 5 to 10 cm, spreading up to 60 cm wide. This hardy plant is perfect for rock gardens, hanging baskets, or as a low-growing ground cover. With its Mediterranean roots and discovery in Croatia, Sedum 'Angelina' offers both beauty and resilience, making it an excellent choice for various garden settings.
