Sedum Makinoi Ogon, also known as Golden Japanese Stonecrop, is a stunning trailing ground cover succulent that is perfect for Australian gardens. With its bright gold foliage and delicate star-shaped yellow-green flowers that bloom in summer, this plant will add a beautiful splash of color to any space. This particular cultivar of Sedum makinoi is known for its dense mat-forming habit, growing up to 2 cm tall and spreading up to 30 cm wide.

One of the best things about Sedum Makinoi Ogon is how easy it is to grow and care for. This plant is very low-maintenance and can thrive in a wide variety of growing conditions. It can grow in full sun or partial shade, but it's important to note that the best golden color usually occurs with some part afternoon shade. It requires well-draining soil, and if grown in a pot, it may need a bit more water than usual, especially during hot weather. However, when grown in the garden, it's generally drought-tolerant and requires little to no watering.

To propagate Sedum Makinoi Ogon, you can break off one of the stems for taller varieties and plant it into the ground where you want to grow it. The stem will root very easily, and a new plant will be established in a season or two. For shorter varieties, simply laying the plant on the ground where you want it to grow is usually enough to get the plant started there. They will send out roots from wherever the stem touches the ground and root itself. If you want to ensure that the plant will start there, you can add a very thin soil covering.

In terms of hardiness, Sedum Makinoi Ogon is generally suited to Australian climates, particularly in areas with mild winters. It can tolerate temperatures down to around -5°C, making it suitable for most parts of Australia except for alpine regions. This plant is perfect for rockeries, ground covers, hanging baskets, and mixed plantings, and it will create a beautiful cascading effect as it trails down walls or over garden edges.

Overall, Sedum Makinoi Ogon is a versatile and low-maintenance plant that will add a pop of color and interest to any garden. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting out, this succulent is a great choice for anyone looking to add some easy-to-grow greenery to their outdoor space.
