Sempervivum globiferum subsp. allionii, also known as "Rollers," is a charming succulent that is native to the southwestern Alps in France and Italy. This cute small plant forms hemispherical rosettes of pale green to almost yellow leaves, often with reddish-brown tips. The rosettes grow up to 4 cm in diameter, producing numerous round offsets that are lightly attached to delicate stolons and easily roll away from the mother rosette to put down roots.

The leaves of Sempervivum globiferum subsp. allionii are fleshy, finely hairy, lance-shaped, and curved, up to 1.5 cm long and 0.5 cm wide. The plant's appearance is unique and spiky, with lime green rosettes that can flush red at their tips.

In the summer, Sempervivum globiferum subsp. allionii produces clusters of up to 1 cm diameter pale greenish-yellow or yellow flowers with six petals. The flowers appear on leafy stalks that grow up to 15 cm tall. After flowering, the mother rosette dies, but the offsets survive, and the plant continues to thrive.

Sempervivum globiferum subsp. allionii is a "roller" variety, meaning it produces many round offsets on delicate stolons, which easily roll away from the mother plant to put down roots. These chicks can be left to form tidy clusters or removed to share and transplant.

This plant needs plenty of outdoor sunlight to show its best colors and maintain a tight rosette form. It thrives in gritty, well-draining soils and pots with drainage holes. Sempervivum globiferum subsp. allionii does most of its growing in the spring and summer and will thrive with weekly watering and afternoon shade if temperatures exceed 80°F. It is incredibly frost hardy and will happily thrive through winter under an insulating blanket of snow. However, it must be protected from heavy rains and standing water to prevent rot.

In conclusion, Sempervivum globiferum subsp. allionii is a unique and attractive plant that is easy to care for and perfect for gardeners who love succulents. Its spiky and vibrant appearance, along with its ability to produce many offsets, makes it a charming addition to any garden or collection.
