Sempervivum ciliosum, also known as Teneriffe Houseleek, is an adorable and hardy succulent native to Southeastern Europe. It forms a mat of small, pointed, and very hairy leaves that are grey-green in color. This spreading evergreen perennial grows up to 10 cm tall and spreads up to 50 cm wide.

Mature rosettes produce clusters of greenish-yellow flowers on stems up to 10 cm long in summer. Despite its superficial resemblance to cacti, houseleeks are not closely related to them. This plant requires a sheltered position in full sun and well-drained soil. It can be grown outdoors or in containers and is perfect for those who want an easy-to-care-for plant that is not waterlogged.

The name "Houseleek" comes from its tendency to root on the roofs of houses. This plant earned the popular name "Hen and Chicks" from its growth habit. The mother plant sends off numerous offsets that cluster around her base like chicks.

Sempervivum ciliosum is a charming and low-maintenance plant that can add a touch of nature to any setting. With its striking appearance, this plant is an excellent choice for those who want a beautiful and unique addition to their garden or home.
