Aeonium 'Medusa' is a striking succulent known for its deep mahogany and near-black leaves, which develop their most intense colors under stress or in full sun. This unique variegated Aeonium is believed to be a sport of Aeonium 'Velour,' though its exact parentage remains somewhat of a mystery. Originating possibly from the Netherlands and widely distributed from Asia, 'Medusa' shares similarities with both Aeonium 'Mardi Gras' and 'Velour' in its rosette formation and overall structure.

The plant grows up to 60 cm tall and 90 cm wide, producing dense clumps of offsets that enhance its visual appeal. During the cooler months, particularly in autumn and winter, the creamy outer bands of the leaves become more pronounced, contrasting beautifully with its darker mid leaf. This seasonal color shift adds a dynamic element to any succulent collection.

Aeonium 'Medusa' thrives in well-draining soil and bright, indirect light. While it can tolerate some direct sunlight, it’s best to avoid the harsh afternoon sun to prevent leaf burn. Watering should be thorough but infrequent, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. This succulent is also relatively cold-hardy for an Aeonium, overwintering well in regions without extreme frost. In areas with colder winters, it is ideal to grow 'Medusa' in pots that can be moved indoors.

With its unique appearance and robust growth habit, Aeonium 'Medusa' is a captivating addition to any succulent collection, offering a dramatic focal point with minimal maintenance.
