Echeveria ‘Heart’s Delight’ (also known as ‘Pagoda’) is a rare and highly textured rosette succulent prized for its extraordinary carunculated foliage. A sister seedling to the celebrated Echeveria ‘Raindrops’, this distinctive hybrid was named by Jocelyn Ainsworth and shares the same genetic tendency to develop raised leaf protuberances. As the plant matures, the upper surface of each thick, fleshy leaf forms pronounced heart-shaped or wart-like bumps, creating a sculptural, almost architectural appearance that sets it apart from smoother Echeveria varieties.
The plant forms a low-growing, solitary rosette reaching up to 20 cm in diameter. Its glaucous blue-green leaves are coated in a soft powdery farina, giving a muted pastel tone that protects the foliage from intense sun. In bright light and during cooler periods, the rosette can blush shades of lavender, dusty pink and soft purple, especially along the leaf margins and raised caruncles. This seasonal colour shift makes it particularly appealing in Australian conditions where strong sunlight enhances pigmentation.
In summer, mature specimens produce tall, arching flower spikes adorned with reddish-orange, bell-shaped blooms typical of the genus. While generally solitary, established plants may produce occasional offsets over time, forming small clustered groupings.
For best results, grow in full sun to bright filtered light to maintain compact growth and vivid colour. Use a premium free-draining succulent mix incorporating 50–70% mineral grit such as pumice or perlite to prevent root rot. Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry completely between watering cycles. Although tolerant of mild cold, protect from frost and temperatures below approximately 2 °C. Leaf or stem propagation is possible, though slower than standard smooth-leaved forms.
With its textured foliage, pastel tones and collectible rarity, Echeveria ‘Heart’s Delight’ adds depth, contrast and conversation value to succulent arrangements, rockeries and feature pots alike.
