Echeveria ‘Viant’ (also known as ‘Snow Claws’ or ‘Biant’) is a striking Korean hybrid succulent admired for its sculptural form and soft pastel tones. Believed to have lineage from Echeveria lauii, this cultivar forms tight, symmetrical rosettes of thick, spoon-shaped leaves coated in a heavy layer of farina—a natural powdery bloom that gives the plant its signature silvery-white to blue-green appearance. Each leaf tapers to a fine point, often tipped with contrasting red accents that resemble delicate claws, inspiring its popular nickname.

This compact Echeveria typically grows to around 10–15 cm in diameter, making it ideal for small pots, windowsills, or curated succulent arrangements. When exposed to bright light and mild environmental stress, ‘Viant’ develops attractive blush tones—shifting into hues of peach, soft orange, or pink along the leaf margins. These colour changes are seasonal and influenced by light intensity, temperature variation, and watering frequency, adding year-round visual interest.

Well-suited to Australian growing conditions, Echeveria ‘Viant’ thrives in a bright position with plenty of indirect sunlight or gentle morning sun. Strong light encourages compact growth and enhances its vibrant stress colouring, while insufficient light may result in stretching or loss of form. Like most succulents, it prefers a free-draining potting mix and should be watered only when the soil has completely dried out. Overwatering or poor drainage can quickly lead to rot, especially due to its dense rosette structure.

Highly regarded among collectors, this Korean hybrid combines refined form with subtle colour shifts, making it a standout addition to any succulent collection. Its manageable size and distinctive appearance make it equally suited to beginners and experienced growers seeking something a little different.
