Echeveria is a large genus of flowering succulents native to Central America, Mexico and north western parts of South America. Often referred to as Hen-and-Chickens because of the way new offsets form from the parent plant they are a very diverse species with great variance in shape, colour and also size. There are more than 500 known varieties with many more being hybridized yearly by avid collectors and growers.

There is a lot to love about these highly prized gems, with many of the rarer forms of variegated and crested Echeveria plants selling for hundreds of dollars each. Echeveria gets its name from Atanasio Echeverria,  a naturalist, botanist, and Mexican artist during the late 1700s when he painted and co-operated on the discovery and cataloging of Mexico’s natural flora.
