Aeonium 'Pink Witch' is a highly distinctive variegated Aeonium, prized for the remarkable pink, cream and green colouring that develops across its rosettes. Young growth often opens predominantly cream to pale green around the centre, while maturing leaves develop increasingly prominent pink margins and bands. The intensity of these colours changes considerably with season, light and growing conditions, giving established plants a constantly evolving appearance.
One of the great attractions of 'Pink Witch' is the strength of its pink pigmentation. During periods of active growth or lower light, plants may display considerably more green and cream, with softer pink around the leaves. With brighter conditions and seasonal change, the pink can become exceptionally rich and saturated. Strong colour does not require harsh summer exposure; bright light with protection from intense afternoon sun generally produces attractive variegation while reducing the risk of scorching.
'Pink Witch' is widely regarded in specialist Aeonium cultivation as a variegated derivative or mutation of Aeonium 'Blushing Beauty'. The precise early history of 'Pink Witch' is not as thoroughly documented as that of 'Blushing Beauty', so its relationship is best regarded as the prevailing horticultural account rather than a formally established pedigree.
The connection is particularly interesting when the two are grown alongside one another. 'Blushing Beauty' is celebrated for its seasonal green, bronze, red and pink tones, whereas 'Pink Witch' adds stable variegation to the equation, creating its characteristic combination of green, cream and true pink.
'Pink Witch' develops branching stems topped with attractive rosettes and can gradually form a colourful multi-headed specimen. Like most Aeoniums, its strongest vegetative growth generally occurs through the cooler part of the year, with growth slowing during hot summer conditions. Grow in a very free-draining succulent mix, provide good airflow and allow the potting mix to dry appropriately between watering. Bright light encourages compact growth and strong colour, while some protection from extreme afternoon summer sun is beneficial in hotter Australian conditions.
Collectors interested in unusual growth forms may also enjoy Aeonium 'Pink Witch' Crest, in which the familiar variegated foliage develops along broad, densely folded crested growth rather than conventional individual rosettes.
