Crassula capitella subsp. thyrsiflora, often referred to as the Red Pagoda or Pagoda Village, is a distinctive succulent shrub sure to catch the eye of any plant enthusiast. With its captivatingly unique growth pattern, this plant captivates onlookers as it stacks its pinkish-red rosettes into a formation reminiscent of a pagoda, the well-known tiered towers from the far East. In the warmth of the summer sun, the shades of red intensify to a deep, rich burgundy that adds a bold splash of colour to any space.

Ranging from a petite 20 cm in height, the Red Pagoda is perfect for those with limited gardening space or anyone wanting to add a compact, yet striking element to their environment. What's more, this low maintenance plant is a great companion for the often erratic weather patterns of Australia. It is resilient in the face of dry spells and appreciates a careful watering schedule to prevent overwatering.

Interestingly, the Red Pagoda's beauty is not limited to its stacked rosettes. It surprises and delights with a flourish of delicate pink and white flowers on long, spike-like inflorescences in late summer and autumn. Following the flowering season, a good prune will stimulate fresh growth, rewarding you with a brand new set of vibrant pagodas to brighten up the cooler months.

In conclusion, the Crassula capitella subsp. thyrsiflora is a wonderfully adaptable and attractive addition to any collection. With its striking architecture, minimal care requirements and enchanting bloom, it offers a delightful blend of botanic interest and visual appeal.

Seasonal Colour & Plant Variation

Succulents naturally change in colour, size and form throughout the year. Many develop richer colours and more compact growth during periods of seasonal stress, particularly through cooler months and brighter conditions, while warmer or lower-light conditions may produce greener, softer growth.

The plant you receive may therefore vary from the product images depending on the season, its stage of growth and current growing conditions. These natural variations are part of the character of living plants and do not affect their quality or health.

Crassula capitella ssp thyrsiflora

Store owner replied: Thank you, Joseph — great to hear everything arrived quickly and in excellent condition 🌿

I'm just wondering, does it grow any bigger, leaf size, like my Buddha's temple, or does it stay tiny as it is now? They look pretty happy and healthy, just small though. It will be interesting to watch them as they grow and how they grow. Thank you very much for them.

Crassula capitella ssp thyrsiflora

Store owner replied: These are probably the smallest pagoda you will find. They will grow into a multi branched clump, with each branch growing quite long towards the end of summer, early autumn when they grow long flower stems with a mass of pinkish white flowers all along rhe stem. They will benefit from a cut back after flowering to keep them compact and put some vigour back into the plant. Be sure to grow some new plants from leaves or stem cuttings as large plants can lose vigour at flowering time, and you can sometimes lose them.

ok

Crassula capitella ssp thyrsiflora

Store owner replied: Sorry you could only manage 3 stars. These plants plants look their best in winter and spring. They flower in summer and lose their compact pagoda heads. You will be much more impressed with this plant in the coming cooler weather. Be sure to cut the flower heads off so it produces lots of new pagodas :)
