Crassula dejecta, also known as Doily Crassula or Crassula undulata, is a lovely and easy-to-care-for succulent shrublet that originates from South Africa. It is a compact plant that can grow up to 40 cm tall, with slightly fleshy green leaves that often have a reddish tinge and a silvery edge due to a row of rounded, bead-like hairs on the margins. The leaves are arranged in neat rows up the erect stems, giving a geometric and tidy appearance.
Crassula dejecta is a low-maintenance plant that requires very little attention or water, making it ideal for novice gardeners. It prefers full sun and can be grown outdoors in most parts of Australia including colder regions such as Victoria where we have had it growing well outdoors in our garden for several years. It is easily propagated by cuttings, leaves, offsets, or seeds.
One of the most striking features of Crassula dejecta is its beautiful white flowers that often have a hint of red color on them. The flowers are carried in tight, flat to round-topped clusters at the ends of the branches during midsummer. As the plant matures, it produces more flowers, creating a beautiful display.
Overall, Crassula dejecta is an excellent plant for anyone looking for a unique and attractive addition to their garden or collection. Its low maintenance requirements and striking appearance make it a great choice for both novice and experienced gardeners alike.
