Echeveria 'Emerald Ripple'
Echeveria 'Emerald Ripple', also known as Echeveria 'Ron Evans', is a compact, freely clustering succulent prized for its glossy green foliage, pointed red tips and ability to develop beautiful orange, peach and red tones under suitable growing conditions. Its numerous small rosettes readily offset to form dense, colourful clusters, making this an especially attractive Echeveria as it matures.
Compact Rosettes & Clustering Growth
'Emerald Ripple' forms neat rosettes of thick, pointed leaves and readily produces offsets around the parent plant. Over time these develop into substantial multi-headed clusters, with the individual rosettes remaining relatively compact when plants are grown under strong light with restrained feeding.
The cultivar is also widely circulated under the name Echeveria 'Ron Evans'. It has been reported in cultivation as a hybrid involving Echeveria setosa and Echeveria amoena, although detailed breeder and parentage records are not widely documented.
Green Foliage & Seasonal Colour
During active growth the fleshy leaves are predominantly fresh to emerald green, with red to pink colouring concentrated around the pointed tips and outer portions of the leaves. With stronger light, cooler conditions and a leaner growing regime, the foliage can develop considerably warmer shades of orange, peach and red.
The appearance can therefore change markedly throughout the year. Plants receiving more water and nutrients generally produce larger, greener rosettes, while slower-grown plants can remain tighter and develop much stronger warm colouring.
Flowers & Crested Form
Mature plants can produce slender flower stems carrying warm orange flowers, providing an additional display above the clustered foliage. Flowering time can vary according to climate and growing conditions.
'Emerald Ripple' can also occur in a fascinating fasciated form, where the normal rosette growth changes into broad, densely packed fans. See our Echeveria 'Emerald Ripple' Crested for this unusual form.
Light & Best Colour
Echeveria 'Emerald Ripple' is adaptable and can grow successfully in full sun through to part shade. For tighter rosettes and the strongest orange, pink and red colouring, provide as much light as the plant can safely tolerate. Plants grown in softer light will generally remain greener and may develop a more open growth habit.
Plants should be acclimatised gradually when moved into substantially stronger sunlight. During very hot Australian weather, some protection from extreme afternoon sun may also be beneficial to prevent scorching.
Watering, Feeding & General Care
Grow in a free-draining succulent mix and water thoroughly when required, allowing the growing medium to dry well between waterings. Avoid prolonged wet conditions, particularly during cooler weather.
'Emerald Ripple' responds particularly well to a restrained feeding regime. It tolerates relatively low nutrient levels and, when grown slowly with good light and conservative watering, can develop small, tight rosettes around 8 cm across with an attractive orange to red blush. More generous feeding can encourage larger, faster-growing rosettes with predominantly green foliage. Neither growth form indicates an unhealthy plant; growers can adjust light, water and nutrition according to the size and colouring they prefer.

Succulents naturally change in colour, size and form throughout the year. Many develop richer colours and more compact growth during periods of seasonal stress, particularly through cooler months and brighter conditions, while warmer or lower-light conditions may produce greener, softer growth.
The plant you receive may therefore vary from the product images depending on the season, its stage of growth and current growing conditions. These natural variations are part of the character of living plants and do not affect their quality or health.
Pickup is available in Seville, Yarra Valley VIC by appointment. Order online as normal and any shipping charge will be automatically refunded after collection, unless you would prefer to receive an additional plant of similar value instead.
