Echeveria 'Rain Drops', also known as Raindrops Echeveria, is a highly sought-after succulent that belongs to the Crassulaceae family. This hybrid, created by Dick Wright, is the smallest of all the bumpy-leaf Echeverias, The plant forms a rosette of round, pale green leaves with reddish margins and green and sometimes blue bumps on the surface, resembling droplets of water. The rosette grows up to 15 cm in diameter and may occasionally have a few offsets.

One of the most interesting features of Echeveria 'Rain Drops' is the blue-green bumps that develop on the leaves as the plant matures. Not all young specimens have these bumps, but they will develop with time. especially under limited water conditions. Remarkably, the formation of these bumps is an innate survival mechanism encoded within the plant's DNA, allowing for water storage during periods of drought. So allowing the plant to stay dry for a period of time between waterings is essential to producing the most beautiful plants

Typically Rain Drops is green during the growing season, putting on size with the bumps continuing to get larger and leaves thickening in size given the favourable conditions. It will turn red with stress over summer but it is at its best in winter when it turns the deepest shades of purple and red. It can also turn orange to bright yellow mainly along the leaf edges adding a lovely contrast. The plant produces bell-shaped flowers that are pinkish outside and yellow inside. These flowers appear on branched inflorescences that rise well above the rosette.

Echeveria 'Rain Drops' is not a difficult plant to grow, as long as a few basic rules are followed. It is important to avoid letting water sit in the rosette, as this can cause rot or fungal diseases that will kill the plant. Dead leaves should be removed from the bottom of the plant as it grows, as they provide a haven for pests. Echeverias are susceptible to mealy bugs, so regular checks for pests are necessary. Careful watering habits and plenty of light will help ensure success.

These Echeveria 'Rain Drops' plants for sale are the original Dick Wright hybrids. There are similar plants that may be called Echeveria 'Rain Drops', but two fairly different forms have been given new names: Echeveria 'New Heights' and Echeveria 'Heart's Delight'.

In summary, Echeveria 'Rain Drops' is a small but fascinating succulent that can be a little hard to find at times. Its unique appearance, with green and blue bumps on the leaves that resemble water droplets, makes it a popular choice for plant collectors. With proper care, this plant can thrive and provide a lovely addition to any collection.
