This cactus thrives in humid environments, including moist forests, rocky outcrops, humid canyons, and montane regions, at elevations of 200–1,750 m.
Hatiora salicornioides is often grown as an ornamental plant both indoors and outdoors and makes a great basket plant. It requires some humidity and is not frost-tolerant. The plant is recommended to be grown in light shade and at a minimum average temperature of 12°C. It is propagated by stem cuttings and has been successfully cultivated outside in Phoenix, Arizona, with the right conditions.
