Sedum clavatum, also known as Tiscalatengo Gorge Sedum, is a charming succulent plant native to Mexico. It forms compact rosettes of fleshy, frosty blue-green leaves that can elongate into long creeping stems over time. The leaves can reach up to 25 mm in length and have a club-shaped appearance due to the baseball-shaped sepals of its star-shaped white flowers. These flowers bloom in mid to late spring to early summer, adding a touch of elegance to any rock garden.

Sedum clavatum thrives in semi-arid and arid climates, from southern California to mid-Texas, and requires porous, well-draining soil and at least 4 to 6 hours of sunlight. It is categorized as fairly easy to maintain and needs to be watered when the soil is dry, but over-watering should be avoided.

This succulent plant can grow up to 20 cm tall, and its branches lose the lower leaves as they elongate. However, younger stems often cover them, giving the impression of a solid mat of attractive rosettes. Sedum clavatum is hardy to 0 °C  so is suitable for most parts of Australia, only requiring protection from frost.

Overall, Sedum clavatum is a delightful addition to any rock garden, adding an interesting texture and unique appearance. It is a low-maintenance plant that can thrive in a variety of environments, making it a versatile option for succulent enthusiasts.
