Aeonium 'Ink Painting' is a stunning variegated succulent that captivates with its intricate, streaked foliage, resembling the flow of an ink painting. Its unique "silk variegation" presents a beautiful contrast of emerald green and white, with hints of purple emerging when exposed to ample sunlight. Thought to be a mutation of the vibrant Aeonium 'Mardi Gras', this variety originated in Asia and has gained popularity for its distinctive rosette shape and year-round colour transitions.
Growing up to 30 cm tall, 'Ink Painting' produces offsets from the outer ring of its main rosette, allowing for a fuller, multi-rosette display over time. This plant’s leaves are slightly uneven, adorned with subtle white streaks, and are covered in a soft, velvety down that adds a silvery sheen to the foliage. The rosettes open wide, showcasing their beautiful texture and jagged leaf margins.
Aeonium 'Ink Painting' thrives in full to partial sun, though it should be shielded from the harsh afternoon heat to prevent leaf burn. It prefers well-draining soil and requires minimal watering, especially during the summer when the plant may go dormant. During this time, the leaves might curl slightly to conserve moisture.
This fascinating cultivar is not naturally occurring but was selected and nurtured in nurseries, making it a rare and striking addition to any succulent collection.
