Aeonium Velour Cutting/s
Aeonium 'Velour' cutting is a lovely way to grow this colourful, branching succulent from the start. Its rosettes combine fresh lime-green centres with leaves that can deepen through red and mauve to rich purple in strong light. Fine, soft hairs give the foliage the velvety texture behind its name.
What You Will Receive
You will receive one good-sized, semi-hardwood Aeonium 'Velour' cutting with a rosette approximately 70mm in diameter or larger, ready for planting. The colour of your cutting will vary with the season and its growing position in our nursery.
First image for display only. The gallery shows 'Velour' in both its greener, active winter growth and its deeper summer colours. Your cutting may look different from the first image: the strongest purple tones generally develop during warmer weather as growth slows and the plant enters summer dormancy.
If you would prefer a rooted plant, see our Aeonium 'Velour' established plant.
About Aeonium 'Velour'
Aeonium 'Velour' opens new rosettes in lemon-yellow to lime-green tones, creating vivid centres against the older leaves. Those outer leaves can develop shades of red, mauve and deep purple as conditions change. The plant is especially rewarding to watch through the seasons, moving between lush, greener growth and its richly coloured summer appearance.
'Velour' was selected by hybridiser Jack Catlin from a cross between Aeonium canariense and Aeonium arboreum 'Zwartkop'. Another selection from the same cross is Aeonium 'Blushing Beauty'. The two can look similar at times, although 'Velour' generally develops darker purple foliage, while 'Blushing Beauty' tends to retain more green.
Planting and Growing Your Cutting
Allow the cut end to dry and callus before planting in a free-draining succulent mix. Set the stem firmly in the mix and keep it in a bright, sheltered position while roots develop. Water cautiously at first, then water thoroughly when required once the cutting has established, allowing the mix to dry appropriately between waterings.
After rooting, introduce the plant gradually to stronger light to encourage compact growth and seasonal colour. Protect an unrooted cutting from intense afternoon sun and prolonged wet conditions. With time, 'Velour' can grow into a branching plant carrying multiple colourful rosettes.
All plants are shipped bare rooted unless otherwise stated. Orders are carefully packed and shipped via Express Post to NSW, VIC, QLD, SA and ACT. Orders are dispatched according to our weekly shipping schedule, available on our Shipping page, with tracking provided once your order has been lodged with Australia Post.
Succulents naturally change in colour, size and form throughout the year. Many develop richer colours and more compact growth during periods of seasonal stress, particularly through cooler months and brighter conditions, while warmer or lower-light conditions may produce greener, softer growth.
The plant you receive may therefore vary from the product images depending on the season, its stage of growth and current growing conditions. These natural variations are part of the character of living plants and do not affect their quality or health.
Pickup is available in Seville, Yarra Valley VIC by appointment. Order online as normal and any shipping charge will be automatically refunded after collection, unless you would prefer to receive an additional plant of similar value instead.
